Report

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors:

a. Approve and authorize the Director of Health Services or designee to execute a non-standard Agreement with Hartnell College to provide students with supervised field experience, thus fulfilling the school’s internship requirements, effective upon execution to November 30, 2029 with no exchange of funds; and

b. Approve non-standard indemnification provisions as recommended by the Director of Health Services; and

c. Approve and authorize the Director of Health Services or designee to sign up to three future amendments that do not significantly change the scope.

 

SUMMARY DISCUSSION:

The County of Monterey Health Department, Public Health Bureau, and Hartnell College are committed to service in the community and applied learning experiences for students. The Public Health Bureau is seeking approval for an agreement with Hartnell College to provide internship opportunities to Hartnell College nursing and STEM students interested in obtaining experience and training in the Public Health Bureau’s Public Health Nursing Programs and Public Health Laboratory. Students will be onsite at the Health Department and Laboratory based on criteria set forth in the agreement. 

 

This work supports the County of Monterey Health Department 2025-2028 Strategic Plan Goals: 1. Build community power and partners’ capacity to increase equity and improve health, and 4. Deepen organizational effectiveness and support long-term sustainability. It also supports two of the ten essential public health services, specifically: 4. Strengthen, support, and mobilize communities and partnerships to improve health, and 8. Build and support a diverse and skilled public health workforce.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Offices of the County Counsel and Auditor-Controller have reviewed and approved this Agreement as to legal form and fiscal provisions, respectively.

FINANCING:

There is no cost to the General Fund for this agreement.
