Title

Approve and authorize the Director of Health to execute a Social Work Field Practicum Agreement between the Monterey County Health Department (“MCHD”) and California State University, Northridge (“University”) for students to obtain practical, clinical experience at MCHD for the period of August 26, 2015 to June 30, 2016.

Report

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

Approve and authorize the Director of Health to execute a Social Work Field Practicum Agreement between the Monterey County Health Department (“MCHD”) and California State University, Northridge (“University”) for students to obtain practical, clinical experience at MCHD for the period of August 26, 2015 to June 30, 2016.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

MCHD requests the Board of Supervisors to approve a Social Work Field Practicum Agreement for students enrolled at University who require practical, clinical experience towards earning their Master of Social Work during the period of August 26, 2015 to June 30, 2016.  While providing “real world” experience for student interns, MCHD is positioned to attract University graduates to apply for future job openings, thereby creating a pipeline for students who have Spanish language skills and a desire to pursue their social work career in Monterey County.

The proposed Agreement outlines the duties and responsibilities of each party and includes an Exhibit to ensure student adherence to MCHD policies and procedures

While this work is not directly in support of a Health Department strategic initiative, it is in support of one or more of the ten essential public health services, specifically: 4) Mobilize community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems and 8) Assure competent public and personal health care workforce.

This Agreement contains a 90 day termination “without cause” provision (Section VII, A), which provides that either the County or University may cancel the Agreement.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

County Counsel, Auditor-Controller, and Risk Management have reviewed and concur.  A copy of the Agreement is on file with Clerk of the Board.

FINANCING:

There are no fiscal provisions included in this Agreement.  .
