Report

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

Authorize the County Administrative Officer or designee to execute a Memorandum of Agreement, retroactive to April 18, 2023, and all related documentation on behalf of the County for the FY 2022 Local Solicitation award for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), with the City of Salinas, subject to review and approval by County Counsel.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has the opportunity to continue to obtain direct grant funds under the 2022 BJA FY 22 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program Local Solicitation.  This is an opportunity to receive funds for the purchase of ruggedized tablets for patrol vehicles which do not have mobile data terminals in the Sheriff’s Office, which funding is not otherwise available in the departments approved budget.  No matching funds are required for acceptance of this grant funding.  The requested action is part of a continuing cooperative arrangement with the City of Salinas and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office to secure this funding, in accordance with the requirements of the JAG grant program.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The County Administrative Office and the City of Salinas support this action and are prepared to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement.

FINANCING:

There will be no new net county cost to the County General Fund; this funding will be added to the FY 2022-23 budget in a separate board action after full approval of the MOU.
