RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Receive a report from the Monterey County Health Department on the Monterey County Health Department Strategic Plan: 2014 Accomplishments Report; and
b. Authorize the distribution of final report to County departments, the public, and community partner organizations.

SUMMARY:
The Monterey County Health Department (MCHD) Strategic Plan: 2014 Accomplishments Report highlights work conducted by the department as part of carrying forward the three initiatives of the 2011-2015 MCHD Strategic Plan: 1) empower the community to improve health through programs, policies, and activities; 2) ensure community health and safety by emphasizing prevention; and 3) ensure access to culturally and linguistically appropriate, customer friendly services.

Specific accomplishments in support of the three initiatives include trainings, events, community empowerment programs, and infrastructure and access expansions. Accomplishments were spread across the entire County and within County regions. In addition, MCHD aligned activities to the three initiatives through Bureau-specific performance measures, developed tools to track alignment through Board Reports and ensured alignment of initiatives with long term indicators in the Community Health Improvement Plan.

DISCUSSION:
This report documents how MCHD has developed programs, policies, and activities and aligned its work in support of its 2011-2015 Strategic Plan initiatives. This work also supports six of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Ten Essential Public Health Services:
