RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a)      Approve an Agreement with the Monterey County Historical Society for the Care, Custody and Control of Certain Monterey County Historical Records.
b)      Authorize the Chair of the Board to sign the agreement.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Treasurer-Tax Collector has recently recovered old tax records from the former Monterey County Library at 26 Central Avenue, Salinas, California.  The Department does not have adequate storage available but desires to preserve such records for posterity, and to make such records available for educational and research purposes.  
 
The Monterey County Historical Society, a non-profit organization, is willing and able to preserve, protect and display said records and has agreed to the care, custody and control of the records indicated in Exhibit A.  
 
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Monterey County Treasurer-Tax Collector, the Monterey County Historical Society and County Counsel concur with this recommendation  
 
FINANCING:
There is no financial impact to the General Fund.
