RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Adopt a resolution authorizing and directing the Auditor-Controller to:
amend the Social Services budget by increasing appropriations and revenues by $800,000 for Fund 1001, Appropriations Unit SOC105, Account 61805 of the Fiscal Year Adopted 2026-27 budget to provide building maintenance and improvements to new county-owned building at 1000 South Main Street, Salinas (4/5ths Vote).
SUMMARY:
County of Monterey was awarded a settlement of $800,000 and Monterey County Department of Social Services requires increased appropriations and revenues to their FY 2026-27 Adopted Budget so that this funding can be applied toward the substantial repairs needed at the Life Foundation 1000 S. Main Street, Salinas.
DISCUSSION:
Monterey County is the new owner of the Life Foundation Building on 1000 S. Main Street, Salinas. This building does require substantial repairs, such as a new roof, an updated electrical panel, fire risers, sewer/plumbing, and updated bathrooms to meet ADA compliance. The court-appointed receiver is overseeing these repairs, using prevailing wage.
Department of Social Services received $800,000 on July 21, 2026 due to a court settlement on this building. To use this funding toward necessary building repairs, the Department requires an increase to their appropriations and revenues. so that this funding can be put toward the necessary repairs of this building.
