RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Receive the 2021 annual Monterey County Crop & Livestock Report from the Agricultural Commissioner’s Office.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Agricultural Commissioner’s Office produces an annual Crop and Livestock Report pursuant to Sections 2272 and 2279 of the California Food and Agricultural Code. The Crop and Livestock Report states the condition, acreage, production, and value of the unprocessed agricultural commodities produced in the County. The 2021 Crop and Livestock Report (Report) highlights the diversification of growing the many different crops in Monterey County, and the beneficial economic impact which provides strength and resilience to the local economy. The theme of the Report “Salad Bowl of the World” reflects the diversification of the many different crops grown within the Salinas Valley.

FINANCING:
Costs associated with the production of this Report are included in the FY2021-22 budget.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
Agriculture is the largest contributor to the County’s economy. This Report tabulates the annual gross production value of agricultural products produced in Monterey County in 2021.
