RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a. Approve and authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer to execute on behalf of County of Monterey the quote for the VRT subscription Rules License Agreement between the County of Monterey and Sourcefire, Inc. for the period of September 29, 2013 through September 28, 2014 for the yearly provision of a subscription to the Snort application in the total amount of $5,187;

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Snort is a network intrusion prevention and detection system (IDS/IPS) developed by Sourcefire, Inc. Combining the benefits of signature, protocol, and anomaly-based inspection, Snort is the most widely deployed IDS/IPS technology worldwide. Signature based IDS monitor packets in the Network and compares with pre-configured and pre-determined attack patterns known as signatures.
