RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and authorize the Director of Health, the Assistant Director of Health, or the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency Director to execute Amendment No. 1 to extend the Paramedic Service Provider Agreement with Carmel Highlands Fire Protection District on the same terms and conditions through January 31, 2022.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency is designated under California law by Monterey County as the local Emergency Medical Services Agency responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the local EMS system throughout Monterey County. Under California law, no person or organization may provide "advanced life support," also known as "paramedic services," unless that person or organization is an authorized part of the emergency medical service system of the local EMS agency.

Accordingly, under California law, a paramedic service provider must have a written agreement with the local EMS agency to participate in the EMS system and to comply with all applicable state regulations and local policies and procedures, including participation in the local EMS agency's Continuous Quality Improvement ("CQI") program

The Monterey County Board of Supervisors approved and authorized the execution of the Paramedic Service Provider Agreement on June 26, 2018. The Agreement is set to expire on January 31, 2020. The parties wish to amend the Paramedic Service Provider Agreement to extend it through January 31, 2022 on the same terms and conditions.
