Adopt resolution commending Detective Mark
Stevens upon his retirement from Monterey
County Sheriff's Office after 29 years of
service
WHEREAS, Mark Stevens was hired in 1981 by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, beginning his
career as a Deputy Sheriff in the King City Station and ending his career as a Detective in the Coastal
Station; and
WHEREAS, Mark Stevens was born in San Jose, California and has been a Monterey County resident
for over thirty years, and his college enrollments include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice,
with a minor in Pre-Law from Sacramento State University; and
WHEREAS, Mark Stevens was sworn in on November 2, 1981 by then Sheriff D.B. Bud" Cook and
over his lengthy career served under four Monterey County Sheriff's including D.B. Bud" Cook,
Norman Hicks, Gordon Sonne and Mike Kanalakis; and
WHEREAS, Mark Stevens attended the Gavilan College Police Academy graduating April 1, 1982,
and received his Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Certificates from the Commission on Peace Officer
Standards and Training; and
WHEREAS, Mark Stevens served as a Field Training Officer for thirteen years, worked the Violent
Crimes Unit, worked the Special Enforcement Division, was a Search and Rescue Team member for
twenty-five years, and was promoted to Detective in 2000, and worked in Narcotics, Robbery/Homicide,
Coroners, Sexual Assault, and Property Crimes units; and
WHEREAS, Mark Stevens, throughout his distinguished career, has contributed countless hours in
support of the Moose Lodge, and possesses the coveted title of Root, as bestowed by the Cypress
County Order of the Root; and
WHEREAS, Mark Stevens and his wife, Denise, were married on January 23, 1982 and made their
home in Carmel Valley with their sons Trent and Trevor.
