RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Authorize payment of invoice #395415 and invoice #394552 for a total amount of $23,594 to Medical Doctor Associates (MDA) for locum tenens services provided at Natividad Medical Center (NMC) in July 2015.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
NMC entered into an agreement with MDA on February 1, 2009; as amended March 1, 2010; July 1, 2010; March 1, 2011; July 1, 2011; December 1, 2011; July 1, 2012; May 1, 2013; July 1, 2013; December 1, 2013; July 1, 2014 and May 1, 2015 to provide locum tenens services. Locum tenens are temporary physicians utilized during periods when employed/contracted physicians are not available (e.g., vacation; illness; continuing medical education; etc.) to provide health care services vital to NMC's continued operation.

NMC conducted a Request for Proposal (RFP) for locum tenens services for Fiscal Year 2015/2016. Due to the lengthy RFP process, agreements were not awarded until August 2015 and it was necessary to extend the term of the existing agreement with MDA in order to ensure these services would be available in the month of July 2015. The Board of Supervisors approved a Letter Agreement with MDA on June 23, 2015.

During the month of July, the extended term of the agreement, NMC had patient care coverage needs for vacancies in the hospitalist and the pediatric hospitalist units. NMC utilized MDA's physicians who already had privileges to practice medicine at NMC to cover these services which caused invoices to exceed the Fiscal Year 2015/2016 amount by $23,594.
