RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Receive and accept the Monterey County Commission on the Status of Women Annual Report Fiscal Year 2016- 2017.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
This report provides the Board of Supervisors with a summary of the Commission of the Status of Women's priorities, accomplishments and developments over the 2016-2017 fiscal year. This was a time of transition for the Commission: a new Chair was elected and six Commissioners were appointed resulting in capacity and opportunities to move forward in strategic planning. Two strategic planning activities were held in the past year and a Strategic Plan was developed. The Commission voted to focus efforts of subcommittees and events on a yearly theme. Three new ongoing sub-committees have been established. For FY 2017-18 the Commission voted to address Human Trafficking in Monterey County as their annual focus topic.
The 2017 Outstanding Women of Monterey County event was very successful. Ten women who have made significant contributions to the community were recognized. The March 2017 event was fully funded by private donations and sponsorships. Additionally, the Commission has continued to increase their visibility within the community through social media and participation on various committees.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Preparation of the report for submission to the board was provided by the Department of Social Services.
FINANCING:
Recommended actions have no budgetary impact and do not affect County discretionary funds.
