Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Authorize the Registrar of Voters to assign any worker of the Elections Department the duty to administer voter registration in the County of Monterey.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

California Elections Code Sections 2100 et seq., relating to voter registration provides that it is the intent of the California Legislature to encourage voter registration and for the appointment of officials throughout the county to administer the process. Specifically, Section 2103 provides that the governing body of any county, city, city and county, district or other public agency authorize and assign its officers and employees to register voters, and that no limitation be imposed on the number of such persons. The Monterey County Registrar of Voters is requesting authorization to allow any worker of the Elections Department to assist voters to register on behalf of the Registrar of Voters. This will expand the ability to promote and encourage registration within the County.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
No other agency involvement is necessary.

FINANCING:

There will be no additional cost to the County General Fund associated with this recommendation.
