Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution in support of the Arts Council for Monterey County's grant application to the California Arts Council.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Arts Council for Monterey County (ACMC) is applying for a grant from the California Arts Council in the amount of $12,000.

Attached is a letter from Paulette Lynch, ACMC Executive Director, requesting support from the Board of Supervisors for its application for State funding from the California Arts Council. The letter asks the Board of Supervisors to advise the California Arts Council that it continues its designation of the ACMC as Monterey County's official partner agency. It also asks the Board of Supervisors to advise the California Arts Council that it approves of the ACMC's application for a grant of $12,000.

The California Arts Council requires a resolution of support from the County to consider the grant request from the ACMC. Funding from the California Arts Council will be used as general support for services that benefit Monterey County residents through arts programs. These programs are targeted to reach those in Monterey County's most underserved communities. The ACMC will provide a one-to-one match as required by the California Arts Council. The County has contracted with the ACMC to administer the County's Cultural Arts Program. The purpose of the Cultural Arts Program is to strengthen the local economy and enrich the quality of life by nurturing and promoting artists, artisans, arts educators, and arts organizations. Obtaining this additional funding will enable the ACMC to strengthen the Cultural Arts Program for Monterey County.
