RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and authorize the Director of Health to sign Amendment No. 2 to Agreement A-12068 with the Family Service Agency of the Central Coast for suicide prevention services for Monterey County residents. Amendment No. 2 increases the FY 2013-14 annual amount by $5,360 for a revised total Agreement amount not to exceed $389,360.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Family Service Agency of the Central Coast (FSACC) operates a community suicide crisis line for the tri-county region of Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. In addition to the 24/7 crisis line, FSACC provides suicide prevention training to school personnel, community agencies and organizations, conducts an on-going public awareness campaign to educate the community regarding suicide prevention, and develops support groups for families and friends of suicide victims. This work supports the following Monterey County Health Department 2011-2015 strategic plan initiatives: empower the community to improve health through programs, policies, and activities; and enhance community health and safety by emphasizing prevention. It also supports one or more of the ten essential public health services, specifically: inform, educate, and empower people about health issues.

The proposed Amendment No. 2 provides a four percent (4%) cost of doing business increase for Fiscal Year 2013-14 for a revised maximum total Agreement amount of $389,360 for the period July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2014.
