Conduct a public hearing to consider renaming Frontage Road East, a public road located in the Community of Aromas in the unincorporated area of Monterey County, to one of the following options: Red Barn Road or Harry Ellingwood Road.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Caltrans is completing the construction of major improvements to US Highway 101 in the Aromas community in North Monterey County. As a part of this project a new interchange was constructed near the Red Barn facility at San Juan Road. Numerous roadways were routed and new ones constructed to provide circulation to properties and businesses that lost direct access to Highway 101. One of these new roadways, referred to as "Frontage Road East", is located on the south eastern leg of the interchange in both Monterey and San Benito Counties. This new frontage road serves two private drives and the new access road into the parking lots for the Big Red Barn.

The Director of Public Works received a petition letter from Manuel G. Delgadillo, Vice President of Stage Coach Territories, representing The Big Red Barn, Inc., (property owner). Mr. Delgadillo requested the new frontage road be named "Red Barn Road."

Another name for consideration is Harry Ellingwood Road, because of the historic nature of the Red Barn and in the honor of the original owner, Harry Ellingwood.

Section 970.5 of the California Streets and Highways Code provides that a public hearing be held by the Board of Supervisors to hear and consider proposals to change the name of a county highway.
