RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Authorize the County Administrative Officer or designee to execute a retroactive Memorandum of Agreement, effective October 1, 2023 and shall remain in full force and effect through the full appropriation of 2024 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds and all related documentation on behalf of the County for the FY 2024 Local Solicitation award for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), with the City of Salinas, subject to review and approval by County Counsel.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has the opportunity to obtain direct grant funds under the 2024 BJA FY 24 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program Local Solicitation. This is an opportunity to receive funds for the purchase of keyboards (to go along with the Toughbook’s we leased) in the Sheriff’s Office, which funding is not otherwise available in the departments approved budget. No matching funds are required for acceptance of this grant funding. The requested action is part of a continuing cooperative arrangement with the City of Salinas and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office to secure this funding, in accordance with the requirements of the JAG grant program.
This Salinas City resolution for this MOU was received by MCSO on August 15, 2025.
