.Report

RECOMMENDATION/SUMMARY:

Approve Amendment #2 to an agreement between the County of Monterey and Columbia Telecommunications Corporation dba CTC Technology and Energy to novate the assumption of duties under the original agreement from CTC to the Imperial County Office of Education (ICOE)

DISCUSSION:

The Monterey County Free Libraries (MCFL) connect to CalREN (the fiber backbone of the State connecting colleges, public schools, and public libraries and managed by a company called CENIC) via a statewide aggregator.  The aggregator is selected by the California State Library, with public libraries having contracts with the aggregator instead of directly with CENIC.  In the past 5 years, the aggregator has been moved from Califa to CTC, and is again moving to the Imperial County Office of Education (ICOE).

This is Amendment #2 to the existing agreement, with the novation to the new aggregator.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Office of County Counsel has reviewed this item and approved as to form.

FINANCING:

There is no cost for this agreement.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:

Support for high speed and robust fiber connectivity to the branch libraries serves library and community purposes, including in an emergency.
