a. Accept the 2013-14 Annual Report from the Monterey County Children's Council; and
b. Receive an oral presentation regarding current Children's Council initiatives - the Early Childhood Development Initiative and the All Kids Our Kids partnership with local schools.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Accept the 2013-14 Annual Report from the Monterey County Children's Council; and
b. Receive an oral presentation regarding current Children's Council initiatives - the Early Childhood Development Initiative and the All Kids Our Kids partnership with local schools.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Annual Report was created to help the community understand the needs of children in Monterey County and to help build community commitment to meet those needs. The Annual Report is intended to help community members make informed decisions with regard to public policy, volunteer efforts and support for non-profit organizations. The purpose of the report is also to provide the community with an overview of the Children's Council's initiatives and accomplishments for the FY 2013-2014 and goals for FY 2014-2015. It also provides the community with data on important indicators related to child and youth well being that will be monitored over time.

The oral presentation will include an update on the Early Childhood Development Initiative (ECDI). The ECDI is a catalyst for the community to work together to ensure that young children, from the prenatal stage through third grade, have what they need to succeed in school and life. ECDI seeks to maximize existing and future resources to support all young children and their parents, families, and communities during this critical period of early childhood.
