RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors introduce, waive the reading, and set March 11, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. as the date and time to consider adoption of an ordinance amending Section 12.24.010 of the Monterey County Code to amend the through highway parameters of Old Stage Road and to amend Section 12.24.020 of the Monterey County Code to establish a four-way stop intersection at Old Stage Road and Old Natividad Road in the Salinas area of the unincorporated area of the County of Monterey.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The County received a request for a four-way stop intersection at Old Natividad Road and Old Stage Road. Old Stage Road is a designated through highway with stop signs installed at the two entrances at Old Natividad Road. Resource Management Agency-Public Works staff has reviewed the intersection and found that nearby utility poles partially obstruct the visibility of vehicles traveling on Old Stage Road by vehicles stopped on Old Natividad Road. This condition can be addressed by making the intersection an all way stop.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Office of the County Counsel has approved the ordinance as to form. The California Highway Patrol concurs with this recommendation.
FINANCING:
There is no financial impact to the General Fund. Traffic control devices are paid from the Road Fund. The cost to install the necessary signing is estimated at $800.00. There are sufficient appropriations available in the Road Fund (Fund 002, Unit 8195) to finance t...
