Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Authorize the Deputy Purchasing Agent for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) or his designee to execute Amendment No. 6 to the Agreement (A-12438) with B.E. Smith, Inc. for Interim Employee Services, extending the Agreement an additional six (6) month period for a revised full term of January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2016 and adding $132,000 for a revised total Agreement amount not to exceed $3,151,148.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
NMC is currently recruiting for an Infection Control Nurse and is requesting to contract with B.E. Smith for an Interim. California regulations, Title 22 require that NMC have an Infection Control Nurse for the oversight of infection control activities including staff education in prevention & control of infection. The recruitment for a permanent Infection Control Nurse opened on August 24, 2015. Since the recruitment opened last August, we've received 21 applications & only 4 have met the minimum qualifications; however, neither passed the final selection interview. Once a candidate is identified we believe that he/she would be required to provide a minimum of 30 days-notice and appropriate moving time if necessary.

B.E. Smith is a nationally recognized expert in hospital interim management. Due to the difficulty anticipated with filling this executive position NMC is requesting an increase in the original contract amount. This increase will provide NMC with the ability to have an interim serve in the facilities Infection Control Nurse role.
