RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and authorize the Director of Health to sign Amendment No. 1 to Agreement No. A-
11902 with Edgewood Center for Children and Families to increase the existing Agreement
amount by $494,429 for a new total amount not to exceed $728,920.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Edgewood Center for Children and Families (“Edgewood”) will provide mental health services to Monterey County young adults in accordance with the client's individual education plan and other identified needs. Services will include day treatment intensive (full day), medication support, therapeutic behavioral health services and mental health services as required by the treatment plan. The goal of the program is to reduce inappropriate behavioral and/or psychiatric symptoms to a level of care whereby the youth can return home or move to a lower level of care.

This Amendment No. 1 is retroactive to August 13, 2012, the date when two additional young adults were placed at Edgewood on an emergency basis. Emergency placements are conducted when current contracted providers are not able to provide the specialized mental health needs of the young adult.

Additionally, the Hospital Diversion Program was added to provide services to a Monterey County youth in need. Edgewood’s Hospital Diversion Program serves youth and families who may be experiencing acute stress, psychiatric, behavioral health and/or family problems. The program's goal is to assess and stabilize youth. Parents and caregivers are provided intensive support to bring youth home as soon as possible.
