It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Reappoint Eric Lauritzen as Agricultural Commissioner for a four-year term of office effective July 27, 2014.
Summary:
California statute requires each county to appoint a County Agricultural Commissioner. This action fulfills the County's obligation in that regard.
Discussion:
Section 2121-2123 of the California State Food and Agricultural Code sets forth appointment and employment procedures for county Agricultural Commissioners. The Board of Supervisors shall appoint the Agricultural Commissioner for a four-year term of office with a license of qualification issued by the California Secretary of Agriculture.
The Monterey County Board of Supervisors first appointed Mr. Lauritzen on July 27, 1998 and then reappointed him for a four-year term in 2002, 2006, and again in 2010. Mr. Lauritzen is now eligible for reappointment to his fifth four-year term of office. It is recommended that the Board reappoint Mr. Lauritzen to another four-year term.
