RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve an expenditure of $10,000 from the Board of Supervisors (District 2) discretionary fund to reimburse the Pajaro Business Group for costs associated with small business development programs and emergency preparedness workshops and services.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Pajaro Business Group is a newly formed nonprofit organization established to provide meaningful, practical support to local business owners, many of whom face barriers to accessing essential training, capital, and resources.
Pajaro Business Group plans to offer a series of targeted workshops and services, including:
· ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) training for businesses that serve and/or sell alcohol.
· Mandatory sexual harassment prevention training for employers.
· Guidance and education on workers' compensation insurance.
· Business insurance planning and coverage support.
· Retirement planning options for small business owners and employees.
In addition to these direct services, funding would also support essential administrative needs. This includes staffing and infrastructure needed to pursue additional grant opportunities, ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of Pajaro Business Group, and its efforts to serve the community. Its goal is to empower small businesses with the tools, knowledge, and support the need to thrive, contributing to a stronger, more resilient local economy in Pajaro and surrounding areas.
This request authorizes reimbursement for costs associated with providing small business development programs and emergency preparedness workshops and services.
