RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Appoint two Board of Supervisor members to an Ad Hoc Committee to evaluate oversight options for the Office of the Sheriff.
b. Provide other direction as needed.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On December 7, 2022, this Board received an overview of various options concerning oversight of the Office of the Sheriff pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 1185 including appointing an inspector general, establishing an oversight committee, or proceeding with both an inspector general and an oversight committee. This Board’s direction was to establish an Ad Hoc Committee in January of 2023 to study the various options available. Accordingly, two Board members must now be appointed to an Ad Hoc Committee.

Not applicable.
FINANCING:
At this stage it is unclear what the cost of establishing an oversight model would be or where the funds for such a model would be budgeted.
