RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Receive and support the request from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office for the early release of monies awarded to the Sheriff’s Office through the CalAIM JI Grant Round 3 to fund the installation of our Re-entry Resource Center modular building, for Pre-Release Services and outreach programs at the Monterey County Jail; and
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Sheriff’s Office is constructing our new Re-entry Resource Center at the County Jail site that will provide essential services to individuals transitioning from incarceration, helping them reintegrate into the community by offering resources such as employment training, counseling, housing support, and legal assistance. This initiative is a key part of our commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and reducing recidivism rates within our community. This is also in alignment with the CalAIM Justice Involved initiative mandated by the State.
These funds are critical for covering the costs associated with the Job Order Contracts (JOC) project, specifically to support the installation and operation of our Re-entry Resource Center modular building. By releasing these funds that were awarded to us in CalAIM JI Grant Round 3, we will be able to move forward with the necessary infrastructure and ensure the timely implementation of this vital program for our incarcerated population pre and post release.
