a. Approve and authorize the Chief Probation Officer to sign a Memorandum of Understanding in the amount of $100,000 with the Monterey County Office of Education for the term July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020, for collaborative services for the Salinas Community Schools program at Rancho Cielo; and
b. Authorize the Chief Probation Officer to sign up to three (3) future amendments to this Agreement where each amendment does not exceed ten percent ($10,000) of the original contract amount and does not significantly change the scope of work.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Chief Probation Officer to sign a Memorandum of Understanding in the amount of $100,000 with the Monterey County Office of Education for the term July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020, for collaborative services for the Salinas Community Schools program at Rancho Cielo; and
b. Authorize the Chief Probation Officer to sign up to three (3) future amendments to this Agreement where each amendment does not exceed ten percent ($10,000) of the original contract amount and does not significantly change the scope of work.
SUMMARY:
The Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) and the Probation Department (MCPD) maintain a long-standing partnership and a coordinated approach to assist and closely supervise juvenile probationers and at-risk students served by MCOE, utilizing available resources from both agencies. The Memorandum of Understanding identifies mutual responsibilities and provides partial reimbursement to the Probation Department for program costs at Rancho Cielo.
DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE), through its Alternative Education Programs, operates a community day school for Silver Star Youth Program (SSYP) participants at Rancho Cielo, serving youths who have been expelled from school districts.
