Before the Board of Supervisors in and for the
County of Monterey, State of California
Resolution No.: 11-005
Establishing protocols in the event of the death
of a Monterey County resident, employee or
family while serving on active duty in the
military
WHEREAS, five Monterey County residents serving on active duty in the Armed Forces
have lost their lives since the beginning of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi
Freedom
WHEREAS, the impacts of these deaths reverberate throughout the County of Monterey
and are most keenly felt by the families of the fallen as well as other community
members.
WHEREAS, the establishment of these protocols will show the depth of caring the
Monterey County Board of Supervisors, on behalf of the citizens of the County, and
acknowledge the sacrifices of the fallen and their families.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors does hereby:
a. Establish the following protocols in the event of the death of a person while
serving on active duty in the military who is a Monterey County resident,
Monterey County employee, or their immediate family. The Military and
Veteran's Affairs Officer shall:
i. Provide the County Medal to the family of the deceased;
ii. Issue letters of condolence and purchase flowers for the family on
behalf of the Board of Supervisors.
Appeal, on behalf of the Board of Supervisors, to the Governor of California for a
proclamation that the National and State flags be flown at half-staff within the County of
Monterey, following all protocols for lowering
On motion of Supervisor Potter, seconded by Supervisor Calcagno the foregoing
Resolution is adopted this 1 lth day of January 11, 2011, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Armenta, Calcagno, Salinas, Parker, Potter
