Receive a presentation from FLEETWERX regarding their efforts in Monterey County.
SUMMARY:
FLEETWERX is a partnership between DEFENSEWERX, a 501(c)3 located in Niceville, FL, and the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). FLEETWERX builds a bridge that allows small businesses, local non-profits, and academic institutions to partner with government. By reducing barriers to entry, they make it easier for these organizations to access government funding, license government technologies, test their inventions, and access STEM education and workforce development opportunities. NPS conducts defense applied research and provides graduate education to mid-career military officers. With 99 technologies available for licensing, as well as lab and field test sites, NPS offers a diverse set of capabilities for local innovators.
DISCUSSION:
FLEETWERX primarily consist of the following three (3) target areas: Discover Assessment Events - FLEETWERX conducts assessment events through its ecosystem to match state-of-the-art technologies with NPS funded opportunities. Their framework makes it easier for small businesses and non-traditional defense contractors to work with the government. Engage in Field Experimentation - The Naval Postgraduate School Field Lab near San Miguel offers restricted airspace to fly drones, paved, urban, and off-road ground test locations, and both lake and ocean sites for maritime experiments.
Accelerate with Technology Transfers - Licensing technologies developed by the Naval Postgraduate School’s researchers offers a low-cost opportunity for businesses to commercialize existing intellectual property.
