RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors Adopt a Resolution in support of a grant application prepared by the Arts Council for Monterey County submitted to the California Arts Council.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Arts Council for Monterey County (ACMC) is applying for a grant from the California Arts Council in the amount of $12,000.
Attached is a letter from Paulette Lynch, ACMC Executive Director requesting support from the Board of Supervisors to apply for State funding from the California Arts Council. The California Arts Council requires a resolution of support from the County to consider the grant request from the ACMC. Adoption of the resolution will support the grant application of the Arts Council for Monterey County. Their funding request, in the amount of $12,000, is for general support from the California Arts Council for FY 2013-2014, to be used for services that benefit Monterey County residents through arts programs. These programs are targeted to reach those in our most underserved communities. The Arts Council will provide a one to one match as required by the California Arts Council.
The County has an agreement with the Arts Council for Monterey County to administer the County's Cultural Arts Program. The purpose of the Cultural Arts Program is to strengthen the local economy and enrich the quality of life by nurturing and promoting artists, artisans, arts educators and arts organizations. The Arts Council for Monterey County will strengthen the Cultural Arts Program for Monterey County through additional funding.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
County Counsel has approved the resolution as to form.
