Title: a. Approve and Authorize the Monterey County Library Director to enter into an Agreement with CENIC (Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California) on behalf of the County of Monterey to connect Monterey County Free Libraries to the internet through the high speed CENIC network for a period of 5 years at the one-time cost of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00). b. RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve and Authorize the Monterey County Library Director to enter into an Agreement with CENIC (Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California) on behalf of the County of Monterey to connect Monterey County Free Libraries to the internet through the high speed CENIC network for a period of 5 years at the one-time cost of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).
2. Accept the non-standard terms and conditions of the Agreement, including but not limited to County Liability and Indemnification Provisions pursuant to the recommendation of the Monterey County Library Director.



SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Through the California State Library, the County of Monterey, through its Monterey County Free Libraries (MCFL), is eligible to connect County libraries to the high speed California Education Network Initiative program (CENIC network). The State Library is partnering on this project with the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California - CENIC, the Califa Library Group, a not-for-profit entity acting as the state's fiscal and administrative agent to provide this service.
