RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the Board of Supervisors:
Receive a report from the Natividad Medical Center (NMC) Chief Executive Officer updating the Board of Supervisors on the status of the Level II Trauma Center program.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
In January, 2015, Natividad Medical Center (‘NMC”) received designation as a Level II Trauma Center by the Monterey County Emergency Medical Services Agency following the development of a comprehensive trauma care program that meets all required standards for performing high quality trauma services to treat the most severe and critical injuries. The Trauma Center program is a multi-year investment that benefits patients, families, and the entire community. This commitment required the hiring of specialized personnel, procurement of equipment, and establishment of new services to clinically, operationally, and financially succeed as a Trauma Center. This report to the Board of Supervisors highlights the progress and status of the Trauma Center program since its designation.

There is no cost associated with this item and no impact to the general fund.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
Since its designation in January 2015 as a Level II Trauma Center, NMC has treated thousands of trauma patients. With this crucial trauma center, Natividad continues a deep, historical and ongoing commitment to comprehensive trauma care services to all residents of Monterey County.
