RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and authorize the implementation of updates to the attached County of Monterey's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The County of Monterey's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) is a policy governed by the California Labor Code Section 6401.7 (SB198) and the General Industry Safety Code per the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CALOSHA), California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Section 3203, which requires that employers establish, implement and maintain "an effective" written Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) designed to prevent workplace injuries. The Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) is intended to ensure the occupational safety and health of all County employees regardless of position and job tasks.
The IIPP is a component of the County of Monterey Risk Management Loss Control Program. The July 1, 1991 IIPP was fully revised in April 4, 2008. Since then the IIPP has undergone additional revisions, from time to time, as required by CALOSHA. The Risk Management Division of County Counsel is recommending further updates to the IIPP reflected in the attached underline/version.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The attached IIPP P-205 Policy has been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to legal form; the Auditor-Controller as to fiscal terms; and Risk Management for safety loss control, insurance and indemnity provisions.

FINANCING:
The implementation of this policy does not directly involve financial costs.
