RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve expenditure of $100,000 to fund Multiplier/Regenerative California to identify and advance a pilot project cohort with the next phase of the Attainable Housing Initiative, from District 5’s discretionary fund.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
If approved, the funding will support Regenerative California in advancing the next phase of the Attainable Housing Initiative, a collaborative effort to address the region’s urgent housing needs. This phase focuses on developing the infrastructure, policy tools, and partnerships necessary to significantly increase the supply of attainable housing for working families and middle-income residents across Monterey County.
The investment will directly benefit the public by:
· Accelerating the production of attainable housing that is affordable to local workers and families.
· Streamlining approval processes and aligning funding mechanisms to remove barriers to housing development.
· Supporting a regional strategy that promotes economic stability, reduces commuting distances, and enhances quality of life for County residents.
By fostering an ecosystem of local landowners, employers, builders, government agencies, and investors, the initiative lays the groundwork to realize a long-term public benefit goal of creating 3,000 new attainable housing units by 2030. These efforts will help address the countywide housing shortage, reduce displacement, and improve access to stable housing for essential community members.
