RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors receive an oral report from Matthew Cate, Executive Director, California State Association of Counties (CSAC) regarding issues pertaining to the 2013-14 State Legislative Session.

SUMMARY & DISCUSSION:
In November 2012, Matthew Cate began his new position as Executive Director for the California State Association of Counties (CSAC). Mr. Cate has nearly two decades of experience working at the county and state levels. He was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger as Secretary of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) in 2008 and retained by Governor Brown as the leader of California’s adult and juvenile correctional system. In this position, he worked very closely with CSAC and California county officials on the historic 2011 implementation of public safety realignment.

Mr. Cate will provide oral reports to the Board on issues pertaining to the 2013-14 State Legislative Session and will be available to answer questions posed by the Board.
