Report

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a. Receive and review a report regarding Central Coast Health Connect a collaborative Health Information Exchange (HIE).

b. Provide direction to the NMC CEO and staff as appropriate regarding participation in CCHC as a founding member.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

An HIE shares healthcare information electronically across organizations within a region or community.

In 2014 Community Health Innovations led the effort to form a Health Information Organization (HIO) to manage and lead a countywide HIE. In May of 2014 the name Central Coast Health Connect was selected for the HIO. CCHC filed formal paperwork to become a limited liability corporation in December 2014. Natividad Medical Center and Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital have been invited to join the LLC as equal partners.

NMC has been actively participating in the development of the structure and governance documents needed to finalize the formation of CCHC, LLC. NMC is requesting authorization to work with other County staff and Community Health Innovations on the necessary contracts and agreements to become a founding member of CCHC. These contracts and agreements will be presented to the Board of Supervisors for review and approval on a future date.
