a. Approve the submission of three (3) entries in the 2015 California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Challenge Awards competition (Using Collective Impact to Improve Early Childhood Outcomes, Monterey County Gang Violence Prevention Initiative, and Monterey County Contracts & Purchasing Academy); and
b. Authorize submission of the entries by the County Administrative Officer or his designee.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve the submission of three (3) entries in the 2015 California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Challenge Awards competition (Using Collective Impact to Improve Early Childhood Outcomes, Monterey County Gang Violence Prevention Initiative, and Monterey County Contracts & Purchasing Academy); and
b. Authorize submission of the entries by the County Administrative Officer or his designee.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Each year the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) invites counties to submit nominations for the CSAC Challenge Awards. These unique awards recognize the innovative and creative spirit of California county governments for finding new and effective ways of providing projects, programs and services to their citizens.
The following three (3) projects/programs are recommended for submission to the 2015 competition.
Submission #1: Using Collective Impact to Improve Early Childhood Outcomes: The Monterey County Early Childhood Development Initiative is a collective impact coalition to improve outcomes using six key indicators, policy support, and community action teams. (Exhibit A)
Submission #2: Monterey County Gang Violence Prevention Initiative: The Monterey County Gang Violence Prevention Initiative is a county-wide effort to address a prevalent and complex social issue which is a top County priority. (Exhibit B)
