Title
Authorize the Purchasing Manager for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) to execute Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement (BSC1626) with Ameridose LLC for Sterile Admixing Services at NMC, extending the Agreement to June 30, 2013 and adding $72,000 for a revised total Agreement amount not to exceed $144,000 in the aggregate.

Body
RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the Board of Supervisors authorize the Purchasing Manager for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) to execute Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement (BSC1626) with Ameridose LLC for Sterile Admixing Services at NMC, extending the Agreement to June 30, 2013 and adding $72,000 for a revised total Agreement amount not to exceed $144,000 in the aggregate.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Ameridose provides IV medications in concentrations and forms that are not commercially available. The number of drug shortages has continued to increase over the past 3 years. When IV medications are unavailable Ameridose is often able to make them. The facilities used by Ameridose allow them to make IV medications that have better expiration dating than what can be made by the NMC pharmacy. This results in less waste of both medication and money. Ameridose helps the hospital to save money, decrease waste, increase treatment options and make available those medications unavailable due to medication shortages.
