RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt a Resolution:
a. Supporting the Route Adoption for State Route 156 by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans); and
b. Authorizing the Director of Public Works, Facilities, and Parks to forward an executed copy of the Resolution to Caltrans.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), in cooperation with the Transportation Agency of Monterey County (TAMC) and the County of Monterey, will be constructing safety and operational improvements along Highway 156 in Monterey County. The project is the Castroville Boulevard Interchange on Highway 156. The Route Adoption was rescinded in 1975 due to financial constraints at the time that made the feasibility of construction in the adopted corridor questionable. For the State Route 156 and Castroville Boulevard interchange to be constructed, a new Route Adoption must be established for the State Route 156 corridor.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Office of the County Counsel has reviewed the resolution. Caltrans is in concurrence with this recommendation.
FINANCING:
The County's adoption of a Resolution Supporting the Route Adoption for State Route 156 by Caltrans will have no immediate financial impact on the Road Fund. However, a Freeway Maintenance Agreement will need to be established between the County and Caltrans that will result in new maintenance responsibilities for the County which will be funded by the Road Fund; therefore, there will be a future impact to the Road Fund.
