RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve and authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer or designee to execute a retroactive Agreement with California Certified Interpreters, Inc., for interpretation services at County community events and meetings, effective February 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025, total amount not to exceed $1,500.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On December 3, 2024, the Board of Supervisors (Board) approved the formation of an Immigration Ad Hoc Committee and directed staff to proceed with a comprehensive public education campaign entitled “Know Your Rights,” to inform about immigration rights. Staff has been working diligently to advance this effort by developing social media graphics, a resource webpage with downloadable materials, printed informational cards for distribution to the community, and placement of public service announcements (PSAs) on local television and radio outlets, primarily targeted towards the Spanish-speaking population.

To further this effort, various “Know Your Rights” educational forums were held to inform on critical immigration issues and how the community can be prepared. Event speakers included immigration attorneys and the Mexican counsel general. The County retained California Certified Interpreters to provide onsite interpretation services for our Spanish speaking population during such events. Board authorization is sought to execute the retroactive agreement, effective February 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Office of the County Counsel has reviewed and approved the proposed retroactive agreement as to form.
