RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve the Library Director to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Foundation (“Monterey Bay Aquarium”) from January 6, 2025 - December 1, 2028 to offer programs, classes, and outreach to the community via public library locations

SUMMARY:
Monterey County Free Libraries and the Monterey Bay Aquarium will partner to bring workshops, outreach, and other opportunities to Monterey County Free Libraries locations.

DISCUSSION:
Monterey County Free Libraries partners with various community organizations, non-profits, and other government agencies to bring a variety of programs, workshops, classes, and opportunities to the community via branch libraries. This increases and enhances opportunities in communities for free and local options for learning.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium offers workshops and classes, and is able to conduct some in branch library meeting rooms or other library spaces. The programs anticipated would not include live animals. As with our other non-profit partners, the opportunities would be scheduled by mutual agreement and operational capacity.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT/COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
County Counsel has reviewed as to form. The Risk Manager has approved changes to the Terms from similar MOUs other non-profits have with Monterey County Free Libraries.

FINANCING:
Programs and opportunities provided by the Monterey Bay Aquarium will be offered to the public at no charge. Ancillary costs to Monterey County Free Libraries, such as promotion of these opportunities, will be absorbed into the Monterey County Free Libraries operational budget. ...
