RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors consider taking a support position on Assembly Bill 1585 (Alejo) "Monterey County Water Resources Agency. Lake Nacimiento and Lake San Antonio.", as amended April 4, 2016.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On January 6, 2016, Assembly Member Luis Alejo introduced Assembly Bill (AB) 1585 in an effort to provide funding to the Monterey County Water Resources Agency to aid in the construction of a tunnel between Lake San Antonio and Lake Nacimiento (Interlake Tunnel Project) and spillway modifications at Lake San Antonio. Senator Anthony Cannella is a principal coauthor, and Senator Bill Monning is a coauthor of AB 1585.
AB 1585 was amended on February 8, 2016 and again on April 4, 2016. The current version of the bill includes language changes suggested to Assembly Member Alejo by the Monterey County Water Resources Agency.
As of this writing, AB 1585 has not been heard in an Assembly Committee so no Committee analyses are available. AB 1585 is scheduled to have its first hearing on April 12, 2016 in the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee.
