RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and authorize the Monterey County Sheriff's Office to execute a contract for the purchase of a Cessna 206 surveillance aircraft from San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.


SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Monterey County Sheriff's Aero Squadron has secured grant funding for a law enforcement equipped aircraft. A suitable aircraft, which is owned by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, was located. A preliminary sales agreement (attached as Exhibit A) has been reached with San Mateo County Sheriff for the aircraft, (a Cessna 206). Final approval of the sales agreement will occur after the pre-purchase inspection is completed to buyer's satisfaction. This is a "as is" sale and "where is" sale. The aircraft comes equipped with law enforcement radios and a surveillance friendly platform.


OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, as approved by their Board of Supervisors, has agreed to sell the aircraft for $150,000. The aircraft will have a full pre purchase inspection completed by a certified Cessna mechanic. Any airworthiness issues will be rectified by San Mateo County prior to final sale. San Mateo County Sheriff's Aero Squadron will provide all lot books, flight time records, prior work orders, maintenance records, operating manuals, policies and procedures necessary for the efficient and safe operation of the aircraft.

Monterey County will be responsible for all costs associated with flying and maintaining the aircraft including annual inspections, scheduled maintenance, and fuel costs.
