RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Accept the recommendation of the Monterey County Fish and Game Commission to award a funding grant to Coastal Habitat Education and Environmental Restoration (CHEER); and
b. Approve the distribution of Fish and Game grant funds in the amount of
$500 for a specific grant project for Fiscal Year 2012-13 and $500 for Fiscal Year 2013-14.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Fish and Game Commission recommends the Board of Supervisors approve a Fish and Game grant to Coastal Habitat Education and Environmental Restoration (CHEER) for Fiscal Years 2012-13 and 2013-14. This action is consistent with Board Resolution 81-239, which states that all expenditures using County Fish and Game funds must be approved by the Board of Supervisors.

The grant application was legally placed on the County Fish and Game Commission's agenda for April 9, 2013. The grant project, which consists of rehabilitation and habitat reclamation of the lower Pajaro River, was reviewed for consistency with State Fish and Game Code criteria. The CHEER program will use the funds for fuel costs associated with the equipment that has been donated for use in the streambed clean-up work. The applicant has agreed to the terms and conditions of the grant agreement for use of Fish and Game Propagation Funds. The applicant was afforded an opportunity to present their project to the Commission.
