RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to execute a funding agreement, retroactively to November 1, 2020 through December 31, 2021 with the City and County of San Francisco, a municipal corporation, in its capacity as fiscal agent for the approval authority acting by and through the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management to receive $135,600 to purchase emergency shelter stand-up kits and cots to enhance regional mass care resources.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Bay Area Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Program provides funding through a grant award by the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency (DHS/FEMA) and is designed to assist high-threat, high-density Urban Areas in efforts to build, sustain, and deliver the capabilities necessary to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism. Each year, planning efforts for the Bay Area grant program begin before the release of grant funds. Therefore, eligible application amounts are based on the preceding year's award. The Bay Area UASI conducts a project proposal process and agencies are required to submit applications into the online WebGrants system.
