RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Accept a federal grant award in the amount of $32,400 allocated to Monterey County Probation by the Board of State and Community Corrections to provide mental health-related training to Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) eligible staff from May 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020; and
b. Authorize the Chief Probation Officer to sign all related documents as required by the grant.

SUMMARY:
The Probation Department recommends accepting a federal grant award in the amount of $32,400 allocated to Monterey County Probation by the Board of State and Community Corrections to provide mental health related training to Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) eligible staff from May 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020.

DISCUSSION:
The Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) is providing $7 million for local corrections agencies for a statewide mental health training initiative funded by the federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.

The funding is distributed on a per capita basis to local sheriff departments, police departments and probation agencies for mental health related training delivered to their Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) eligible staff and is retroactive from May 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020.

The funds, available through the BSCC, will be distributed in two priority areas:
1. Mental health related training for local corrections staff
2. Instructor training for the new Behavioral Health training included in all three ST...
