RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Director of Health Services or designee to execute the Agreement with the California State University San Marcos for a term of May 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028 with no exchange of funds; and
b. Approve non-standard risk provisions in the Agreement as recommended by the Director of Health Services; and
c. Approve and authorize the Director of Health Services or designee to sign up to three (3) future amendments where the services do not significantly change, with the approval of County Counsel.

SUMMARY DISCUSSION:
California State University (CSU) San Marcos is a higher learning institution dedicated to preparing future leaders, building great communities and solving critical issues. CSU San Marcos offers a variety of degree and certificate programs including bachelor’s degrees in public health and nursing. The high cost of living in Monterey County and the opportunity for higher salary in the Bay Area make recruitment and retention of qualified nursing and public health professionals challenging for the Public Health Bureau. Offering internships to CSU San Marcos students is one strategy to engage area students and build interest in public health careers.
