RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve the Library Director to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with Partners for Peace from December 9, 2025 - December 1, 2028 to offer programs, classes, and outreach to the community via public library locations
SUMMARY:
Monterey County Free Libraries and Partners for Peace will partner to bring workshops, outreach, programs, and other opportunities to Monterey County Free Libraries locations.
DISCUSSION:
Monterey County Free Libraries partners with various community organizations, non-profits, and other government agencies to bring a variety of programs, workshops, classes, and opportunities to the community via branch libraries. This increases and enhances opportunities in communities for free and local options for learning, direct outreach from non-profits for services, and other partnership opportunities.
Partners for Peace offers programs such as Strengthening Families, and Rainbow Connections to County residents. This MOU will allow partnership with Monterey County Free Libraries to bring outreach and opportunities to library spaces, connecting more youth and families to the options available, and adding to the places Partners for Peace could offer their programs. As with our other non-profit partners, the opportunities would be scheduled by mutual agreement and operational capacity.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT/COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
County Counsel has reviewed as to form. Partners for Peace does have an agreement with another County Department, however it did not cover outreach and use of Monterey County Free Libraries facilities, so this separate MOU was crafted.
