RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors receive an oral report from Monterey County's representative for the 30th Assembly District, Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo has served as a member of the California State Assembly since November 2010. He currently represents the 30th Assembly District which includes portions of Monterey, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties, and all of San Benito County.

Since being sworn into office, Assemblymember Alejo has gained several key appointments. He is Chair of the Assembly Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials, and serves on the Assembly Committees on Judiciary, Labor and Employment, and Local Government. Alejo serves on the Select Committees on: Agriculture and the Environment; Delinquency Prevention and Youth Development; High Technology; Regional Approaches to Addressing the State's Water Crisis; and Sustainable and Organic Agriculture. He is Vice-Chair of the Latino Caucus and also serves on the Ending Poverty and Inequality in California Caucus (EPIC), and the Animal Protection Caucus.

Assemblymember Alejo has been a strong supporter and advocate for issues facing Monterey County. In his oral report to the Board he will provide comments on the recently completed State legislative session, the new legislative session which will begin in January 2015, and the current political climate in Sacramento. Following his presentation, Assemblymember Alejo will be available to entertain questions from the Board.
