RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Authorize the Purchasing Manager for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) to execute the First Amendment to the Professional Services Agreement (A-11862) with John Schatz MD to provide cardiology services at NMC, extending the Agreement from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013 and adding $268,000 for a revised total Agreement amount not to exceed $536,000 in the aggregate.

SUMMARY/ DISCUSSION:
In order to provide 24 hours, 7 days a week cardiology call coverage in the emergency department, it is necessary to contract with multiple physician groups to cover the service. John Schatz MD is currently providing at least half of the annual cardiology call coverage at NMC, as well as EKG interpretation and Medical Director Services. NMC wishes to amend the agreement with Dr. Schatz to extend the term for an additional twelve (12) months in order to continue to provide cardiology services to patients without interruption.

The amount of the agreement for the period October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012 was $268,000, the additional $268,000 is equal to the compensation times the projected number call coverage and cardiology services that will be provided during the additional twelve months of this Agreement. NMC has obtained an independent opinion of fair market value supporting the payment terms of this Agreement.
